Xeomin

Xeomin is often used to improve frown lines between your eyebrows, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. It is also used to treat spasticity, sialorrhea, cervical dystonia, and blepharospasm. The most common side effects are a headache, dry mouth, minor pain or bruising at the injection site, dry eyes, or drooping eyelids. Serious side effects are far less common but can include eye ulcers, some difficulty breathing, speaking, or swallowing, and botulism. What Does Xeomin Treat?

Xeomin is frequently used for the following conditions:

  • A problem if your mouth generates too much spit, or sialorrhea.
  • Arm muscle stiffness if you have spasticity.
  • A painful movement disorder which causes your head to twist and turn or be pulled backward or forward from muscle contractions in your neck, or cervical dystonia.
  • An eye muscle problem because of abnormal spasms of the eyelids, or blepharospasm.
  • To improve, temporarily, the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, glabellar lines, crow’s feet lines, lateral canthal lines, and forehead lines.

Xeomin may also be used for other conditions as determined by Downtown Esthetics and Wellness.

Your Personalized Consultation

At the center of our team philosophy is a never-ending commitment to your safety, efficacy, and continual education. Our practice leads with integrity and focuses on treatments that work with your body, not against your body.

To ensure that your procedure is indeed your best option and will be both safe and effective, you will first undergo an extensive consultation. During this initial session, Downtown Esthetics and Wellness will assess your qualification for Xeomin, performing a full skin analysis, capturing baseline photos, and reviewing your medical history. We exercise integrity, and your personalized treatment plan will be completely designed for you and your lifestyle. We will make treatment decisions together for your success and wellbeing.

The Xeomin Procedure

Xeomin is injected directly into the affected muscles or glands. Downtown Esthetics and Wellness will determine specific locations that need to be injected and the dose per location. The first effects of Xeomin are usually seen within seven days. The effects of Xeomin usually last about 12–16 weeks, but can last a longer or shorter time based on your body.

Everyone is different, so you should talk to Downtown Esthetics and Wellness if you have any questions or concerns about your treatment process.

What are the Most Common Side Effects of Xeomin?

The most common side effects of Xeomin are listed below. These side effects can vary depending on your age, the specific condition being treated, and the injection site. Tell your team at Downtown Esthetics and Wellness if you have any of these side effects that bother you.

  • A dry mouth.
  • Blood pressure increases.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • A seizure.
  • Bronchitis or infection in the nose or throat, sore throat, or common cold symptoms.
  • Difficulty breathing, swallowing, or talking.
  • Neck, muscle, or joint pain.
  • Some muscle weaknesses.
  • Pain or bruise at the injection site.
  • Eye problems, like dry eye, decreased or blurry vision, or drooping eyelids.

What is the Specific Mechanism of Action for Xeomin?

For sialorrhea, Xeomin will reduce the amount of spit your mouth produces by reducing the release of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a natural chemical that increases your spit production.

For spasticity, cervical dystonia, or blepharospasm, Xeomin works by blocking certain nerve signals and therefore reducing muscle activity at the injection site.

For wrinkles, Xeomin will temporarily make these lines on your face look better by simply reducing the muscle activity in the injection area.
