The Laser Tools Available
Laser skin resurfacing can be done with various devices:
Downtown Esthetics and Wellness can use both ablative and non-ablative methods with a fractional laser, which creates microscopic columns of treated tissue. Fractional lasers shorten your recovery time and reduce the risk of any side effects. You might need more than one treatment session. The use of fractional devices has become the preferred method.
The Laser Skin Resurfacing and Rejuvenation Procedure
Laser resurfacing is often done at Downtown Esthetics and Wellness. This is considered an outpatient procedure because it is not done in a hospital. Your team begins by numbing the skin with medicine. For treatment of your entire face, we might give you a sedative to help you feel calm or less anxious.
During an ablative laser resurfacing treatment, an intense beam of light energy is directed at your skin. This laser beam will destroy the outer layer of skin, or the epidermis. At the same time, the laser will heat the underlying skin, or the dermis. This stimulates collagen production over time, resulting in smoother skin.
Ablative laser resurfacing usually takes between 30 minutes and two hours, depending on the specific technique used and the size of the area treated. When performed without a fractional laser, this approach usually needs just one treatment. If you are undergoing nonablative laser treatment or fractional laser resurfacing, you will likely need two to four treatments scheduled over several weeks to get the desired results.
The Laser Skin Resurfacing and Rejuvenation Recovery
After ablative laser resurfacing, your treated skin might be swollen and itchy. The skin might change color. Downtown Esthetics and Wellness will apply a thick ointment to the skin treated and might cover it with an airtight and watertight dressing. You may want to take a pain reliever and use ice packs. New skin usually covers the area in seven to ten days. Complete recovery takes at least a month.
During this recovery time, do not use products that can irritate your face, like cosmetics. Avoid situations that increase your risk of infection, like a public whirlpool. Always use sun protection following your laser resurfacing.
The recovery time after nonablative laser resurfacing is very short. Your skin might be swollen or change color for a few hours. Use ice packs as needed. Usually, you can resume your normal activities and skin routine right away.
